Fall 2009 the audience in Norrbotten will experience a collaboration between the dance company and our own Norrbotten Big Band. Sharing the stage and the focus, their dancers and musicians break the boundaries of traditional ensemble interaction. Performance works include original choreography and music as well as improvisation by all performers, creating a spontaneous performance environment where anything can happen.

The popular After-Work series BANG will continue throughout 2009. To finish off the work week with food and good company topped with great music from Norrbotten Big Band has become quite a tradition for our large loyal audience. March 27 the band will be conducted by trumpet player Tapio Maunuvaara featuring guest artists as Markus Fagervall, Britta Bergström and Göran Norman. Cicerone for the evening is Sofia Jannok
BANG kicks off at 5 pm when Norrbotten Big Band plays the signature, specially written by artistic director and trumpet player Tim Hagans. The band will play until 7 pm, and after that the audience can continue to enjoy mingle and music in the restaurant.
BANG Luleå is a collaboration between Norrbottensmusiken, Kulturens Hus in Luleå Restaurang Luleå and Sveriges Radio Norrbotten.
Bass player Charles Mingus, 1922-79, was one of the most powerful personalities in jazz - both physically and musically. After his death, his wife Sue founded the Mingus Big Band in New York in the spirit of Charles Mingus, her obvious choice as the organizer and artistic director was saxophone player Steve Slagle.
Norrbotten Big Band will in this production interpret Slagle´s tough arrangements and present its many great soloists. The bands artistic director Tim Hagans will be heard as a trumpet soloist and will also arrange a Mingus composition for Slagle´s altosax.
Slagle counters by dedicating to Tim a solo number. How´s that for musical brotherhood!?! Without a doubt, this is one of the most interesting and challenging projects that the NBB has planned over the years.

Movits on tour with Norrbotten Big Band |
The Swedish Group MOVITs is not a common phenomenon. The young guys Johan "Javin" Apotekarn Rensfeldt and Anders' Skräddarn!'Rensfeldt, are members of the group. MOVITS represent a music style that in many ways have had role models in the American artist, singer and band leader Cab" Hi-De-Ho Man " Calloway. Their lyrics, very real, repeateats a theme that leads the audience through a rhythmically tight seance. There are other influences in MOVITS behavior, Cornelius Vreeswijk Roma-legendary guitarist Django Reinhardt and the Buena Vista Club.
