AYJO-Arctic Youth Jazz Orchestra

Orchestras all over the world use different strategies to get young people to become more interested in live music. Arctic Youth Jazz Orchestra - AYJO was formed in 1996, an initiative of Norrbotten Big Band. AYJO, and the collaboration with Norrbotten Big Band is based on a genuine mutual interest.

The musicians in Norrbotten Big Band act as mentors and inspire AYJO and AYJO in return invest time in music. The collaboration has added value for everyone involved - musicians, young people and audiences. Today AYJO consist of young people from across the county of Norrbotten. As a result of the collaboration Norrbotten Big Band is today working more closely to the county's music teachers and this contributes positive to the development of orchestral and improvised music. The work with AYJO complements in an essential way the image of Norrbotten Big Band.

AYJO receive additional financial support for its activities from the autumn of 2008 by Sparbanken Nord via Framtidsbanken and Sparbanksstiftelsen Norrbotten in three years.
